This book is super easy to read, it’s conversational, funny and at times hard hitting。 If you follow James on social media, there’s not a lot in the book that he hasn’t said many times before。 However, the depth, detail , references put a completely different spin on it。 He’s not just some white blonde guy on Instagram barking studies at you。 He is well read, articulate and balanced in his arguments。I feel sorry for his teachers that put him in the bottom sets for everything。 I particularly like This book is super easy to read, it’s conversational, funny and at times hard hitting。 If you follow James on social media, there’s not a lot in the book that he hasn’t said many times before。 However, the depth, detail , references put a completely different spin on it。 He’s not just some white blonde guy on Instagram barking studies at you。 He is well read, articulate and balanced in his arguments。I feel sorry for his teachers that put him in the bottom sets for everything。 I particularly like the anecdotes he gives, as well as quotes from famous writers but also his friends。 I’ve since made a note section on my phone to keep track of my ideas and quotes that I like。I would happily recommend this to a friend。 。。。more

Loved this book, it’s helped me make decisions I was once afraid to make & it’s also allowed me to help friends & family。 Wish they’d teach this in schools

Listened to this as an audiobook。 Really enjoyed it and will definitely be popping it on again for a listen while out walking。 In essence, what I took from it is like similar books, only you can change your situation。 Bad relationship? You can leave。 Hate your job? You can apply for another one。 Want a new car? You can save for it or make it work on finance。 It’s easy to say “oh but it’s easy for him。。” “he doesn’t have the responsibilities I have”。 That may be true but if you want something to Listened to this as an audiobook。 Really enjoyed it and will definitely be popping it on again for a listen while out walking。 In essence, what I took from it is like similar books, only you can change your situation。 Bad relationship? Quick, easy read and to the point! Covers many interesting topics on life, mindset, values, motivation, growth, success, etc in a easily digestible way! However I found quite a lot of repetition across chapters and sometimes too many references

Terrible, Very disappointing。 I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, there are a lot more books that I rate, this is not one of them。 His ego is off the charts now。

Not A Life Coach📚Overview: Life advice from personal trainer, James Smith。 👍 Likes: Simple language, split into interesting categories, good reminder of some topics such as Carol Dweck’s mindset concept。 👎 Dislikes: Hugely disappointing! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This book would have been better titled “Not a Life Coach - Ramblings of a Privileged Middleclass White Man” I am astonished this book got as far as being published。 How many people have to tick it off before it gets to that stage。 Literally the most pointless book ever written。 Written by a man who doesn’t even realise how privileged he is。 What a load of rubbish。 Please don’t waste your time reading it。 That is the best advice I can give you as not your life coach

James Smith you have come along way。 A great read with some fantastic take away points。 I like the ‘task’ elements to the book。 It adds a whole new meaning of ownership。There may not be a third in the pipeline, but if and when it comes I am onboard。

I found this jumped around a lot。 I’ve seen another review that said it didn’t flow and I totally agree。 I like James’ approach generally and the content is good but put together in a clunky way。 Probably best to read when you are in your 20’s too, I’ve already followed societal norms as there wasn’t much content around to offer alternative options (which I would have taken) when I was younger and so reading this made me feel a bit depressed more than anything else。

It’s a nice compilation of solid ideas and ways to think and go about life。 I would recommend it as a gift to young people that need inspiration and guidance。 James is practical, fun and he writes in a way that is easy to like。

Not like the typical self-help book I imagined。 Straight talking and employing simple language, I think this would be the second self-help book I've managed to finish (the first being forced upon us to finish during secondary school days: 7 Habits of Highly Efficient People)。 Overall, easy read and gave me some perspective into how I want to redefine my life。 Not like the typical self-help book I imagined。 Straight talking and employing simple language, I think this would be the second self-help book I've managed to finish (the first being forced upon us to finish during secondary school days: 7 Habits of Highly Efficient People)。 Overall, easy read and gave me some perspective into how I want to redefine my life。 。。。more

This book will (at times) slap you across the face with the hard truths you might not be ready to hear。 While there are parts of the book that weren't for me, and some things I didn't agree with personally, James does a good job at putting life into perspective。 This book may not be a life changing moment of clarity, there are elements that will stay with me forever and parts of my life that I'll be changing because of it。 This book will (at times) slap you across the face with the hard truths you might not be ready to hear。 While there are parts of the book that weren't for me, and some things I didn't agree with personally, James does a good job at putting life into perspective。 This book may not be a life changing moment of clarity, there are elements that will stay with me forever and parts of my life that I'll be changing because of it。 。。。more

The first thing I really feel the need to mention is some of the reviews for this book。 I had a look of some of them after reading it and I really felt that it wasn't properly read or interpreted。 All I saw were people saying that he was talking about social media and just packing a bag and travelling。 Whilst yes, he did talk about this, he's going by his experiences and then telling you to interpret them and he does state this a few times in the book。 With the utmost respect, to even see the pe The first thing I really feel the need to mention is some of the reviews for this book。 I had a look of some of them after reading it and I really felt that it wasn't properly read or interpreted。 All I saw were people saying that he was talking about social media and just packing a bag and travelling。 Whilst yes, he did talk about this, he's going by his experiences and then telling you to interpret them and he does state this a few times in the book。 With the utmost respect, to even see the people who reviewed this take it literally and stop reading his book because of it made me feel like they may have missed the point。 I understand that some books are not for everyone and you may have stopped reading it because it's just simply not helpful or it's not your cup of tea。In saying this, there are some things in the book that I felt would help me in life。 Some of the aspects in the book were interesting and actually made me look at situations in my life differently。 A lot of the things are something I do agree with, such as looking at negativity and thinking of how much energy we waste in worrying about things。 Since reading that, it has made an impact on me and I've even realised what was feeding my negative thoughts。 Since cutting it out, I've been a little better and also tells you how even though things may be against you now, the "future you" will have your back because it would know how to deal with it so there are some great bits of information to take from reading this。 Is the writing the best? No but I like it because it reads the way he talks。 Does it warrant a read? Yes but don't go in expecting it to be like his first book。The thing I love about James is how he's straight to the point but he's not rude about it。 He doesn't blow smoke up your arse and tell you what you want to hear and he doesn't feed you bullshit。 He's very real and open with his truth and also makes you question yours and how you can be better。 I did find myself liking "Not a Diet Book" a little better but this is definitely worth a read。 。。。more

The king of analogies。 I like how honest and authentic he is。 I loved his second book as much as the first one。 He may come across as quite rude and unapologetic but he is genuinely a nice guy who wants to share his knowledge and help as many people as possible。 I work within the same industry and I highly recommend following his content, it’s no BS。 Keep inspiring James!

Really enjoyed this read。 Nothing particularly groundbreaking and I wouldn't say I agree with every idea presented in this book。 However, some real gems e。g。 the underlying message that we should live life according to our own rules and not worry about societal expectations。 Quite a motivating read and over all worth it。 Really enjoyed this read。 Nothing particularly groundbreaking and I wouldn't say I agree with every idea presented in this book。 However, some real gems e。g。 the underlying message that we should live life according to our own rules and not worry about societal expectations。 Quite a motivating read and over all worth it。 。。。more

Let’s be clear, there’s a lot here this has already been said before & yes, I think because it’s aimed at a young laddish audience it’s a bit clumsy & arrogant in places。 However, I actually quite liked the simplicity and barefaced-ness of his discussion。。。so unexpectedly, I’m giving it 4 stars!
